Magnesium material, whose density is only 2/3 of aluminum alloy and 2/9 of steel, is considered to be one of the directions for lightening the body. After overcoming five core technical problems, the world's first magnesium alloy lightweight electric bus rolled off the production line in Shandong. The body frame of this 8.3-meter-long, 24-seat electric bus is made of magnesium alloy materials, which achieves a weight reduction of 780Kg compared to steel materials and 110Kg of weight reduction compared to aluminum alloy materials.

Yang Yuansheng, a researcher at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the current mainstream magnesium alloys have higher strength and stiffness than aluminum alloys, have good electromagnetic shielding performance, superior damping and shock absorption, and are recyclable, which makes them a lightweight vehicle for body weight. Perfect material. However, it is not easy to apply the lightest metal structural materials to electric vehicles, which involves key technical issues such as composition design, profile equipment, material connection and surface treatment.

According to relevant information, because of technical bottlenecks, American car companies have only realized the application of 40Kg magnesium alloy materials to cars, while Chinese car companies have only used less than 1Kg magnesium alloy in the steering wheel. The world's first magnesium alloy lightweight electric bus just unveiled, after overcoming the above problems, successfully replaced aluminum alloy and steel materials with 226Kg magnesium alloy materials, which is a breakthrough in the world's automotive industry.

It is understood that Yang Yuansheng is the chief expert in the research and development of this car, and at the same time, it has attracted top domestic enterprises in the field of magnesium processing to participate in the research and development. The terminal electric enterprise manufacturer Yixing Electric Bus Company also joined the research and development team. The just-launched electric bus achieves the effect of 'increasing the cruising range, reducing the braking distance, and reducing the noise inside and outside the car'.
